If you’re looking for a super easy chicken recipe, this one is a winner. In the Instant Pot, these drumsticks come out tender and juicy every time. As huge fans of chicken wings, our family loves this recipe because it has all the same flavors and a lot more meat. I like the recipe because it’s so effortless. The chicken drumsticks are lightly seasoned with season salt and garlic, giving them a delicious flavor that reminds me of rotisserie chicken. After cooking in the Instant Pot, I use the broiler to crisp up the skin. And my family can’t get enough of them. Sometimes we eat them plain, and sometimes we toss them in our favorite wing sauce. Either way, they’re delicious.

Season the Chicken Drumsticks

This recipe is so, so simple. First, season the chicken. All you need is some season salt and garlic powder. Then, simply sprinkle the seasoning on both sides. And, that’s it for chicken prep.

Pressure Cook in the Instant Pot

Now that the chicken is prepped, it’s time to prep the Instant Pot. Add one and a half cups of water to the bottom of the pot. Then, place your metal trivet in the pot. Finally, nestle the seasoned drumsticks on top of the trivet. Pressure cook the chicken on Poultry Mode for fifteen minutes. It takes up to twenty minutes for the Instant Pot to come up to pressure before it starts cooking. So, make sure you include that time in your planning. After the chicken is finished cooking, immediately release the pressure manually by turning the steam release handle.

Broil the Drumsticks of Crispy Skin

The Instant Pot cooks the chicken meat to perfection. It comes out tender and juicy. In order to crisp up the chicken skin, you’ll need to use your oven’s broiler. While the pressure is releasing from the Instant Pot, turn on the broiler in your oven. When you can open the lid on your Instant Pot, remove the chicken. Then, place the drumsticks skin side up on a baking sheet. I like to line my baking sheets with parchment paper for easy clean up later. Broil the chicken until the skin is golden brown and crispy. It usually takes five to seven minutes, but watch the chicken closely so it doesn’t burn. If the skin is starting to burn in spots but it’s not quite crispy enough, move the pan farther away from the broiler.

Enjoy Your Chicken Drumsticks As-Is or Toss in Your Favorite Sauce

Once the chicken skin is crisped to perfection, remove the pan from the oven. Your drumsticks are ready to enjoy. My family loves the chicken just the way it is with the lightly seasoned garlic flavor. Of course, sometimes its fun to add some sauce and enjoy different flavors. Some of our favorites are buffalo and teriyaki. The best way to sauce these drumsticks, and homemade chicken wings too, is to put them in a lidded plastic container. Add your sauce. And with the lid securely fastened, shake, shake, shake until the chicken is all covered. Yum!!
