Instant Pot Bratwurst is seared on the outside and tender on the inside, and clean-up is a breeze. Perfect for lunch or dinner and easy appetizers too.
Today, I’m going to share with you an incredibly easy recipe that blew my mind the first time I made it. I’m talking about making bratwurst in your Instant Pot. You don’t have to do anything special to prepare the bratwurst because they are already full of flavor. The incredible part, for me, was the clean up. All of the mess stays inside the pot, which means no grease splatters around the stove. The bratwurst is deliciously browned on the outside and perfectly cooked on the inside. And it’s not coated in that extra fat either because you pressure cook them on a rack.
Brown the Bratwurst
The first step in the simple recipe is to brown the sausages. Turn your Instant Pot on using the Sauté Mode. Once the screen says “Hot” add a little olive oil to the pot along with the bratwurst. After the skin is nice and browned turn the sausages over to brown the other side.
Cook for a Crowd
With the Instant Pot, it’s easy to make a few bratwurst for your family or make a lot for a party. If you’re cooking a lot of sausages, brown them in batches so that they can all touch the bottom of the pot. You want each sausage to have that seared, browned skin on the outside. Bratwurst makes an easy, tasty appetizer too. Simply slice them up, add a toothpick, and offer some fun dipping sauces to go with them. Yum.
I love my 8 Qt Instant Pot, but if I were to buy it right now I would buy the 8 Qt with the additional Air Fryer Lid. I haven’t been able to find the lid by itself, so if you haven’t bought an Instant Pot yet or you are looking to upgrade check out the 11 in 1 before you buy.
Time to Pressure Cook
As soon as you’ve browned all the bratwurst, remove them from the Instant Pot and cancel Sauté Mode. Place a metal rack or trivet inside the Instant Pot and pour in two cups of water. Add all the bratwurst back to the Instant Pot, stacking them on top of the metal rack. Put the Lid on the Instant Pot. Make sure the valve is set to sealing and pressure cook the bratwurst for 7 minutes. If you’re eating immediately, manually release the pressure. Or, if you’re cooking ahead of time, simply let the pressure naturally release and the Instant Pot stay on warm.
The bratwurst come out of the Instant Pot, seared on the outside and perfectly cooked on the inside. No more broken casings while trying to cook the bratwurst all the way through. And the sausages stay up out of the grease because they cook on the metal rack. Serve your bratwurst and enjoy.
