Layered Salad Ingredients

For as long as I can remember, I have loved this salad. It’s a family favorite my mom has passed down to me. This layered salad brings back fond memories of barbecues and potlucks. It’s quick and simple to make. Unlike most salads, it’s a great recipe to make ahead of time. Put it in a pretty glass bowl, and you have an impressive side for any occasion. Or, pack it in meal prep containers to bring on a picnic.

Prepare the Ingredients

To make this easy layered you will need: lettuce, red onion, matchstick carrots, celery, frozen peas, shredded cheese, and bacon crumbles. To make this recipe even simpler, buy pre-cut carrots and pre-made bacon crumbles. Then, all you need to do is chop the lettuce, onion, and celery. I used romaine lettuce, but you could use whatever lettuce you like. Then, for the dressing, mix together mayonnaise and your sweetener of choice. As the frozen peas thaw, they will liquify the dressing a bit more. Now you’re ready to start layering.

Time to Layer

With all the ingredients prepped, it’s time to layer the salad. Place all the chopped lettuce in the bottom of the bowl. Evenly sprinkle the chopped onion on top. Next, spread out your carrots. Then, add the chopped celery over the carrots. Make an even layer of the frozen peas all over the salad. Then, use a spatula to spread the dressing all the way to the edge. The peas will peek through, and that’s ok. Finally, top the salad with a layer of shredded cheese and crumbled bacon. That’s it. Cover the salad, and let it sit overnight. The peas will thaw, the dressing will melt down, and all the flavors will meld together.
