There’s nothing like a great surf and turf meal to turn a regular night into something special. If you’re missing going out to restaurants, try making your favorites at home. This Applebee’s parmesan steak and shrimp recipe is super tasty, and so easy to make.

Tenderize and Season the Steak

Biting into a great piece of steak than almost melts in your mouth; it’s magic. So, prepare your steak by using a meat tenderizer to break down the muscle fibers. For steak, the needle-style meat tenderizers work really well. You could also use a meat mallet. Make sure you turn the steak over, and do both sides. After the steak is tenderized, season both sides with season salt and garlic powder. For even cooking, let the meat sit at room temperature for about 30 minutes before cooking.

Sauté the Shrimp

Cooking the shrimp takes very little time, so you can do it while your steak is grilling. You can buy cleaned shrimp without the tails, or just clean them yourself. Once you’ve prepared the shrimp, it’s time to sauté them. Melt butter in a sauté pan over medium heat. Once the butter is melted, add the shrimp. Stir the shrimp so they cook evenly. It only takes a couple minutes. As soon as all the shrimp are pink, remove them from the pan. If they overcook, they will get chewy.

Homemade Parmesan Sauce

After the shrimp are finished cooking, make the parmesan sauce in the same pan. The sauce cooks quickly, so have your ingredients ready to go. You’ll need crushed garlic, fresh squeezed lemon juice, heavy cream and grated parmesan. Add two tablespoons of butter to the pan. Once it’s melted, add the garlic, and stir it in. It will cook fast, so as soon as the garlic is fragrant add the cream and lemon juice to the pan. This will keep the garlic from burning. When the cream sauce starts to simmer, stir in the parmesan cheese and turn the heat down to low. Let the sauce thicken while you finish grilling the steak.

Grill the Steak

While you’re preparing all your ingredients, preheat the grill. You can grill the steak while you’re cooking the shrimp and sauce. When the grill is hot, it’s time to add the steaks. Cook the steak for about four to five minutes. Then, turn them over when they have a nice brown color and grill marks. Continue to grill on the other side until they reach your desired doneness. It takes another five to seven minutes for the steak to reach warm, pink-medium in the center. To ensure a juicy steak, give it time to rest after you’ve finished grilling.

How to Test Meat Doneness

Here’s how to test steak doneness with the palm of your hand.

Put it all Together

Now that your steak has rested (after all that hard work), it’s time to bring the dish together. Put the steak on a plate, and top it with some shrimp. Pour some of the delicious cream sauce over the steak and shrimp. And for added fun, top it all off with shaved parmesan. Enjoy this craveable restaurant meal right in the comfort of your home.
