Enjoy a restaurant style lettuce wrapped bacon cheeseburger at home with this easy bunless burger recipe, and make your own paper wrapper too.
Burgers are such a tasty and easy meal. I think just about everyone loves them too. And burgers are easy enough to personalize so everyone gets just what they want. These days bunless burgers are really popular. More and more restaurants are listening to the customers desires and putting bunless burger options on their menu too. It’s great for those of us looking for lighter meal options and looking for easy low-carb choices. Personally, I love a great lettuce wrapped burger. The refreshing lettuce adds a great crunch to the burger, and you can enjoy the burger as it was meant to be (with your hands).
DIY Paper Wrapper for Your Homemade Lettuce Wrapped Burger
Lettuce wrapped burgers are easy to make at home too. But, let’s be honest, lettuce doesn’t soak up all the juicy goodness of a great burger like a bun does. Eating a bunless burger can get messy. At restaurants they serve the burgers in a paper wrapper which keeps everything together and prevents the juice from running down your arm. It’s really easy to recreate these paper wrappers at home. All you need is parchment paper or wax paper.
- Start with a square of paper. Then, fold two opposite corners together, creating a triangle.
- Fold the top corner down to the long side of the triangle (where you just made a fold). Crease this fold and open it back up.
- Fold the same corner down to the new crease you just made and crease again, creating a small triangle at the top.
- Fold the large triangle on the first crease and tuck in the small triangle. This creates a “pocket” for the burger. Make as many as you need and set aside.
Season and Grill the Burgers
Once all of your wrappers are made, it’s time to start cooking the burgers. Form ground beef into patties by hand, or use pre-made patties. Season both sides of the patties with garlic powder and season salt. Whether you’re cooking inside or outside, heat up the grill over high heat. When the grill is hot, put the seasoned patties over the heat. Sear the meat and grill for three to five minutes. If you see juices starting to bubble up on top, flip the burger patties to sear the other side and seal the juices inside.
Add Bacon and Cheese
After about three minutes on the second side, top the patties with cooked bacon slices and sliced cheese. When the cheese is melted, about two minutes, remove the patties from the heat and let them rest.
Build the Lettuce Wrap
Open up the paper wrappers you made earlier. Start with a layer of lettuce. Depending on how much lettuce you like, you can use a couple large leaves of lettuce or a thick slice of iceberg lettuce. Next, add your burger patty, condiments and topping. Finish your burger with a second layer of lettuce.
Finish Wrapping Your Burger with Paper
Now that you’ve built your lettuce wrap burger, it’s time to finish folding the paper wrapper. Fold up the bottom of the paper pocket over the burger. Then, pick up the burger and wrap the sides around the back to hold it all together. Wrap up the rest of your burgers and enjoy.
