Your family will probably eat these Ham Asparagus Rolls Ups faster than you can make them. A savory appetizer with ham, cream cheese and pickled asparagus.
My parents are great hosts. Everyone who comes to their house always has a great time, and nobody ever goes home hungry. I definitely got my love of hosting and appreciation for good food from them. These Ham Asparagus Roll Ups have been a staple at Mom and Dad’s get togethers for as long as I can remember. As a kid I helped make the roll ups, and now I make them for my friends and family too. They are always a hit.
The Ham Asparagus Roll Ups are so simple they don’t really have a recipe, but they are so delicious and easy I just had to share. Normally, I get out the ingredients (sliced ham, pickled asparagus, and cream cheese) and keep making roll ups until I run out of one ingredient. The hardest part about preparing for this post was trying to measure out how much of each ingredient I use to make it into an official recipe.
To make Ham Asparagus Roll Ups, start with spreading a thin layer of cream cheese on a slice of ham. It’s important to dry-off the deli ham first. It makes it easier to spread the cream cheese. I use paper towels and replace them when they get too wet. Once the ham is covered in cream cheese, add a pickled asparagus to one end and roll it up as tight as you can. I’ve also used two asparagus spears when they are small.
You don’t have to cut the roll ups. Sometimes I leave them whole. They make a great snack to just grab out of the refrigerator. I also like to pack them when I need to bring a bagged lunch, which I recently did on my daughter’s school field trip. They are a great Keto to-go option, when you want to skip the sandwich.
To make appetizers, cut the Ham Asparagus Roll Ups in bite size pieces. I cut the roll up into 5 pieces, about 1 inch each. I like to do as much prep work as I can before a party, leaving very little to do the day of a party (makes for a more fun, less stressful day). These roll ups are prefect for that. Make them a day ahead of time and keep them in the refrigerator until it’s party time.
I usually make Ham Asparagus Roll Ups when no one is home, or I have to make a rule that no one can eat any until I’m finished making them. Everyone always wants to help taste test “just to make sure they’re ok” and my family can eat the roll ups faster than I can make them.

Total Time: 15 min
Prep Time: 15 min
Ingredients
- 6 oz Cream Cheese, room temperature
- 16 oz Sliced Ham, 16 Slices
- 16 Spears of Pickled Asparagus, about 1/2 a 32oz jar
Directions
- Place one slice of ham on a paper towel, put a second paper towel on top and dry the slice of ham. The drier it is, the easier it will be to spread the cream cheese.
- Once you ham is dry, place it on your work surface (I like a clean plate) and spread some cream cheese on top.
- Place one dried-off asparagus spear on the long end of your ham and roll up as tight as possible. Slice into 5 pieces, about 1 inch each, and place on your serving platter.
- Repeat the process with the remaining ingredients. Replace your paper towels when they get too wet.
- If you’re making the ham asparagus roll ups ahead of time, store them in the refrigerator until it’s time to eat.
